An Outlet Pickup: Air Max 1 Dynamic Berry

WHAT?  Air Max 1 “Dynamic Berry” 30th Anniversary

WHY? In the beginning of 2017, Nike launched into the 30th Anniversary year of an all-time favourite, the Air Max 1, with new colourway releases.

Launched in 1987, the Air Max 1 has become one of my favourites, and is a lot of other peoples’ favourite silhouette of all time. So much so that Nike created its own holiday to celebrate the Air Bag that we all love.

The “Dynamic Berry Air Max 1” was released early to the public at the beginning of February 2017,  just a month before March, Air Max Month, and their Air Max Day festivities.

The anniversary “shape” and the wild colours made it a must have.  BUT……. They really didn’t get a huge release up here in Canada.

Just before summer ‘17, a local outlet got a full shipment of them and priced them just slightly below retail, and they sat……and sat……and sat (clearly not everyone likes bright shoes like I do).

I checked out the outlet monthly but I let them sit for well over a year before they hit the back wall and got a major mark down with an extra 40% off.

I knew I would have to have them, as I never turn down Pink or Purple Air Max, but with high stock levels I knew I had to be patient. It paid off big time as I bought the shoe at 1/3 of its original retail value.

DESIGN BEHIND THE SHOE:  This shoe is a 2-colour model; Dynamic Berry and Vivid Sulfur (or as I call it, Mustard Yellow), in a vintage-inspired suede. There is a gradient colour hit on the tongue’s swoosh, as well as a unique 1987 insole design.

WHERE TO BUY? Sadly, if you are looking for these, they are long sold out. The Toronto outlets may still have a few sizes kicking around but other than that, the only other options are third party sites like stockx and ebay.
