Puma surprised us all last summer by announcing that they were coming back to the Basketball category for the first time in decades!
Puma made big noise by signing Hip-hop Legend Jay Z, as a creative director for Basketball, and also signing a few promising rookies to endorsement deals for the 2018-2019 season.
September came around and the first model, the Clyde Court Disrupt, sold out instantly! I wasn’t even able to get a pair when they restocked a month later.
Earlier this month Puma Hoops/Puma Canada reached out and asked if I wanted to check out a pair of the up-coming Clyde Court Purple Glows. As a long time Puma fan, with more Suedes than most people have sneakers, I jumped at the chance for an early peek.
I was impressed with the comfort right out of the box, although I have only worn these casually and not for the designed purpose to play ball in. The padding and knit upper provides a comfortable feel, and the combo of NRGY Beads and IGNITE foam create a soft cushion. The unique lacing system reaches further down on your midsole to give additional support.
If you look closely at the photo below, you will see the “Clyde” signature on the heel, as well as the embroidered “1973” on the pull tabs that marks the year it all began with Walt “Clyde” Frazier.
I’m really impressed with Puma’s first jump back into the Basketball after 20 years.
Puma Hoops has teased a few great colours and I am curious to see where they take this collection next.
